In family therapy sessions, we work collaboratively with you and your partner, or you and your family, to set goals for improving your communication and your relationship.
When we work with couples in therapy, we teach you both skills to build intimacy, with a heavy emphasis on validation, active listening, setting and respecting boundaries, and perspective taking. We also work to change your nervous system response, with an emphasis on helping those that tend to freeze in conflict to be able to move out of the freeze response when triggered. For those that tend to go into defense mode or anger when in conflict, we help you to be less reactive and more able to listen to your partner and resolve conflict more effectively.
In family or couple's therapy, we role model effective communication skills and build skills practice into sessions. We seek to create an environment of safety and respect within your relationships. This helps you grow a greater sense of trust and understanding with your spouse of family members.
