Meet Sue Shekut, LCPC, SEP, CSAT

Therapy for Entrepreneurs, High-Responsibility Professionals, and Neurodivergent Adults

High-performing people often look successful on the outside while privately carrying stress, pressure, and difficult relationship dynamics.

Many of my clients are entrepreneurs, professionals, and thoughtful individuals navigating challenges such as ADHD, autism-spectrum traits, anxiety, burnout, or major life transitions. They are capable and driven—but may also feel exhausted, stuck in old patterns, or unsure how to align their success with a meaningful life.

Therapy can be a place to slow down, understand your nervous system, and build a life that feels sustainable—not just productive.

My work integrates somatic psychology, trauma-informed therapy, EMDR, and practical tools that help you regulate stress, shift long-standing patterns, and make clearer decisions in work, relationships, and life direction.

Common Reasons Clients Work With Me

• Entrepreneurs and professionals in high-responsibility roles
• ADHD and executive functioning challenges
• Autism spectrum / Asperger’s traits in adults
• Anxiety, including OCD and social anxiety
• Imposter syndrome and perfectionism
• Life transitions and identity shifts
• Career stress and work-life balance
• Relationship issues and attachment patterns
• Codependency and boundary setting
• Intimacy, attachment, and sexuality concerns
• Trauma healing and PTSD

My Approach

Many of the patterns people struggle with—anxiety, people-pleasing, perfectionism, emotional reactivity—began as adaptive strategies that once helped you cope.

Rather than judging those patterns, we work together to understand how they developed and build more flexible ways of responding.

In our work together you may learn how to:

• regulate your nervous system under pressure
• recognize and shift patterns that no longer serve you
• set boundaries with greater confidence
• navigate relationships more effectively
• align your work and life with your deeper values

I aim to be transparent about the therapy process and the tools we use. My goal is not only to help you feel better, but to help you think clearly, respond more intentionally, and create meaningful change in your life.

How Therapy Helps High-Performing People

Many successful professionals and entrepreneurs reach a point where the strategies that helped them succeed begin to create stress in other areas of life.

Therapy can help when you notice patterns like:

• difficulty turning your mind off after work
• chronic pressure to perform or make the right decision
• relationships strained by work demands
• feeling successful but not fulfilled
• imposter syndrome despite clear accomplishments
• ADHD or autistic traits complicating leadership or communication
• people-pleasing, boundary challenges, or codependency
• burnout after years of pushing yourself hard

Our work focuses on helping you regulate stress, understand your nervous system, and shift patterns that interfere with the life you want to build.

For many clients, therapy becomes a place to think clearly, recalibrate priorities, and develop healthier ways to lead both their work and personal lives.

Education & Training

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Professional Psychology from Roosevelt University and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Michigan. I also completed graduate-level coursework in business administration at Eastern Michigan University.

My clinical training includes:

• Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP)
• Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT)
• EMDR Therapy (EMDR International Association)
• Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
• Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

I also have training in psychodrama, mindfulness, trauma-sensitive yoga, and somatic resilience and regulation, which inform my integrative approach. I studied Improvisational Theater at Second City in both Detroit and Chicago and at Improv Olympics in Chicago.

Professional Background

Before becoming a therapist, I spent years working in the business and technology world as a technical writer, trainer, and instructional designer. I have also been an entrepreneur for over 25 years. I also taught business planning to massage therapists for 10 years.

This background helps me understand the pressures faced by professionals, founders, and leaders. Many clients appreciate working with a therapist who understands the intersection of career, identity, purpose, and wellbeing.

My clinical experience includes work in:

• outpatient medical mental health settings
• substance use treatment programs
• private group counseling practice providing individual, couple, and group therapy

I have also practiced as a clinical massage therapist from 2000-2018 and a wellness coach since 2009, which deepened my focus on the mind-body connection in mental health.

A Bit About Me

Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy traveling, learning, writing, and spending time outdoors. I have practiced yoga for over 30 years and enjoy hiking, biking, swimming, and paddleboarding with my husband. I am currently learning more about AI and writing a book.

Taking care of my own nervous system helps me stay grounded and present for the people I work with.

Confidential telehealth therapy for professionals and entrepreneurs.

Many of my clients are entrepreneurs and professionals navigating demanding careers, complex relationships, and major life decisions.

Therapy can provide a place to step back, think clearly, and shift patterns that are difficult to change alone.

If that sounds helpful, you are welcome to reach out to schedule a consultation.
